Le Roi Francis LA FRANCE (1964)
Missing since October/November 1964
Missing since: October/November 1964
Missing from: Coquitlam, British Columbia
Age at disappearance: 19
In 1964, LeRoi Francis La France was a 19-year-old student at UBC. He was last seen in Coquitlam, B.C., in October or November of that year. At the time, LeRoi insured a 1952 VW Beetle and lived in Burnaby, B.C.
On March 31, 2016, LeRoi was reported missing after his siblings learned that a formal missing person report had never been made in their brother’s disappearance.
His Doe Network case classification is Involuntary Missing.
The reason for this classification is unknown, as is the reason why no official missing person report was filed in 1964.
After nearly 56 years, only one aspect of this case is clear: LeRoi La France did not want to disappear.
So why did he?
Sumter County Doe Theory
It has been speculated that Le Roi may be Jock Doe (warning: post-mortem images).
The Sumter County does, also known as Jock and Jane Doe, are unidentified murder victims. They were found shot to death in Sumter County, South Carolina on August 9, 1976. Jock Doe is believed to have possibly been Canadian, and the son of a prominent doctor who may have “disowned” him for not pursuing a career in medicine.
