The Boy who Disappeared on the Bulkley
Do you recognize him?
In late June of 1974, 11-year-old Brent Cameron Forsyth vanished while fishing along the Bulkley River, near Two Mile Creek in Hazelton – a remote settlement in northern British Columbia. According to the only missing persons record of Brent – on the RCMP database for missing persons – he was last seen “upriver fishing a back-eddy.” It is unknown who was watching over Brent that day. Maybe he went there alone.
Brent never returned from the river.
What followed was an extensive search involving the community, search and rescue, RCMP Police Dog services and RCMP air service. Despite these efforts and continued investigations, Brent was never located.
Then, likely in 2016, something prompted the police take another look.
New leads
Police were given “new information about Brent,” and investigators are now seeking anyone who might have additional information about his disappearance to come forward. An age-progressed sketch of Brent was also released, showing how he might have looked like in 2016, at 54 years old.
The details of what police learned about Brent have never been released to the public, nor have the specific circumstances surrounding his 1974 disappearance. It’s unclear what evidence or theories, if any, investigators had at the time.
However, the release of a new age-progressed image, showing what might have become of the boy who seemingly vanished 46 years ago, provides hope for the possibility of a resolution in a tragic case with more questions than information.
It also raises an urgent question: If Brent Forsyth is still alive, where is he?
