In August 1996, 34-year-old Bruce Berthelot left his family residence in Leamington, Ontario. He had indicated that he was "going away for a little while," and asked his mother for $1000.
Bruce had been unemployed for several months and had been dealing with unspecified health issues.
Prior to his departure from Leamington, Bruce had telephoned his friends in Manitoba several times. His family believes he was headed to Western Canada. Bruce has lived in Manitoba in the past.
He is known to be a skilled carpenter, and enjoys fishing and boating. He has had no contact with any members of his family or his friends since he left Ontario in 1996.
Bruce has hazel eyes, missing teeth and is described as 5 ft 9 in tall, 185 lbs with a medium build and dark complexion.
