April 20, 1984
On April 20, 1984, a group of children were playing along the banks of the Seine River in St. Boniface, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Spring runoff had washed away the muddy debris, clearing winter’s waste and a path to explore the rugged terrain alongside the rushing water. It was here - near the CNR Main Line bridge - they discovered the body of an infant boy, wrapped in towels, plastic bags, and a blue sweater, partially exposed in a shallow grave.
Some people thought back to the year before.
1983 - Notre Dame St & Rue Nadeau
Late in the summer or early fall of 1983, a white male in his early 20’s was seen carrying an infant in the vicinity of Notre Dame Street and Rue Nadeau - the same area where the baby was found. Nobody recognized the man, and he has never been identified.
It's believed the baby was born around this time and buried in the river shortly after.
Was it a case of panic or denial? Was it natural causes or murder? There are no dentals and no fingerprints, and no distinguishing features to tell us about the boy in the river. There is only the blue sweater.
In his brief life, he was someone, and he came from somewhere.
Who was Baby Innocence?
